What clothes should I wear?

From comfortable to fantastic! Most ladies love the dress-up part of the classes and go all out with ruffles and corsets, while others feel more at ease in leggings or sweatpants. Either way, you won't feel alone, but don't wear anything that restricts your breathing or movement. Most ladies are surprised how quickly they feel comfortable when buying their first pair of ruffled panties! When it comes to footwear, we recommend dance shoes or socks. For Burlesque fitness, socks or ballet slippers are appropriate.

Do I have to be naked?

No. We encourage you to wear something that makes you feel glamorous, but a T-shirt and leggings are fine. (You can always wear sexy underwear underneath; no one will know!)

If we strip lingerie, we always wear double lingerie. That way, we are never completely naked.

Is experience a requirement?

Do you like having fun? Do you enjoy dancing? Do you like laughing? Do you like meeting new friends?

If so, you’re in luck. In fact, I’m sure you’ll have a great time!

Am I too old? Too big? Clumsy?

The Velvet Burlesque dance classes are for ladies of all ages, abilities, shapes, and sizes. We celebrate being women in all our many fantastic forms!

Each class has a diverse mix of ladies, and we think they are all fantastic!

The classes teach you dance techniques and Burlesque routines, but it is not strict – the emphasis is more on feeling good and expressing yourself than on ‘doing it right’.

Do I need self-confidence to participate?

Most people who see the ladies when we perform think they have become confident enough to wear a corset and dance in public. However, that is not the case.

That is what Velvet Burlesque stands for: that one hour a week where you rediscover your femininity and boost your self-confidence.
